Very interesting!!! A Mechanic friend implied something like this, but we could'nt get our head round how this could happen.

Does the body of the Injector pass through the Rocker area 'naked'?

Yes, the injector passes through the valve cover, through the 'rocker area' naked, and then into holes in the head with a smaller hole at the bottom for the tip to spray into the combustion chamber.

The injector is made of 2 or 3 sections crimped together with seals.
I have heard of the bodies of BOSCH piezo injectors leaking on other cars but not Audis, but as our cars get older it is more likely I suppose.

I know we are talking Audi here! but Bmws suffer from the High pressure pump leaking into the crankcase! which is usually the seal on the high pressure pump which fails, just a thought? cheers Dave
