Totally agree, as you can see it in the second to last photo in that post I linked to. It definitely looks like an 'easier' option of opening the boot, as you'd be leveraging only a few inches, as opposed to a few feet if doing it through the ski hatch.
I've also thought of pre-cutting it, as although I've got a ski hatch, there's a rather large LPG tank in the way! Might be a job for the summer months.
