Smile Boot latch Micro Switch

Hi All, new to the group and happy new owner of a 2002 S8 The boot open warning on the dash is always on, even though it’s shut properly! The lights in the boot don’t work and the alarm won’t set. I think these are all related and have narrowed it down to a micro switch in the boot latch. Does anyone know the part number for this and where I could get one? Has anyone really laced one before? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Alex

They are pretty easy to replace once you’ve removed the internal cover from the boot lid (‘furry’ screws and a couple of ‘pop type’ fittings). You’ll probably be able to get one from our sponsors (see number at top of this forum).

The micro-switch is integrated into the boot latch, which is what The_Laird is referring to replacing. The following diagram shows the latch #7, and the part number is 4A5827505H, although if you contact A8parts above, they'll know exactly what you're referring to anyway.

Since you're new to the forum, why not go to the Introductions thread and introduce yourself and the car. We do like to see photos. You could also go into the User CP and update your location details and signature. The location is handy if you ever help physical help, as there may be someone local, and the signature helps if you put your car details there. e.g. a simple question about the correct coil spring has 26 possible answers.

I think I might have a couple lying around if it really is the just switch!

The reason I say that is that I've replaced the boot latch more than once and it's never actually been the microswitch that's the problem, rather a part of the mechanism that triggers it. But being the squirrel I am I kept the working components, they're very easy to unclip from the latch.

My honest advice, given the relatively low cost, is to buy a complete latch from our sponsors so you have it on hand before taking things apart. The last thing you want is to get in there, find something broken/adrift and the latch cease to work at all!

And if you do repair or replace the latch test it with the boot wide open - i.e. simulate closing by pushing a metal bar (e.g. screwdriver shaft) into the space where the latch clasp onto the striker plate.

Removing the boot lid liner is relatively easy but there's a fair few fixings.
First remove the warning triangle and its support bracket then the bolts you can see inside the grab handle.
Then work round the edge and remove ALL the "furry head" screws and finally pull firmly, there are a couple of press-stud type connectors in the middle.

See also this thread from 2018, same problem (plus some others mixed in) and it was indeed plastic bits, not the switch! https://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthre...ighlight=latch I gave very similar advice in post #8!
As I said there:
Quote:
if it's failing there's a good chance that when you remove it the damaged parts may just fall out making it inoperable

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks all for your responses, very helpful. I'm not sure which part is actually gone so I'll do some further investigating. I spoke to the parts people and they have no complete latches in, only the wire from the bootlid to the latch which she said commonly goes!?! I'll up date my profile and add some pics as soon as she's clean and its sunny.

Hi mate i had same issue with mine and I opened it up just to have a nosey. When I had it open I tested the switch and it was fine it just needed the metal bar on it to be re adjusted. The bar had straightened up. I got some long nose pliers and put the back to it's original shape and it's been fine 6 months later.
