And the result was what?

Almost certainly not relevant but the weird untraceable squeak from my engine bay turned out to be the alternator; identified and fixed by MJ.

Also, watching your video closely there's a lighter mark on the edge of the belt that comes round every second or so. That seems 100% synchronised with the lateral movement of the belt on the pulley.
So, my conclusion is that the belt isn't quite straight and that's causing the lateral movement. Manufacturing defect?

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

1. Totally forgot to update it. No squeak at all.

2. Having spoken with BrianB (donp38) at the annual meet, I checked and subsequently replaced the alternator as the rear bearing were shot. The squeak went away, so I assumed that was the cause at the time.

3. Never even noticed that. Went and checked and that is wear on the belt, either from rubbing on the bottom plastic cover or the side of the metal pulley.

4. Michaela mentioned that it could be the belt itself, but until I strip it down 'again', I won't know for sure.

I sincerely hope so. I forgot to provide a further update, but dealing with family health issues recently, so the car isn't getting a look in.

I replaced the entire set, and checked every pulley and tensioner, new vs. old, as I was replacing them. Honestly couldn't see or feel any difference between them. Maybe Michaela was right all along, and it was the belt, as apart from a visual inspection, there wouldn't be anything else I could check on it.
