Found this on the BBC News website, there's downloadable data on MOT failure area's for most vehicle models.

Really interesting.
Here is the extract for A8/S8s below. D2's (calculated up to 2002) have a failure rate of 39% and 35% for the A8 and S8 respectively. Interesting that for my year (2000), the MOT failure on an A8 is 43% - Braking being the most common fault, then suspension and then tyres. The same trend seems true across the entire data set for both A8 & S8.... I assume that 'driver's view of the road' is to do with stone chips and cracks ??? Seems like quite a high failure rate...or is it me? Ian - i bet you'd love to get your hands on the contact details for those 5k odd D2 owners' details...imagine the forum then

The data goes some way to answering a question i posted a few days ago on the production numbers for the A8; although the MOT data doesn't break down into engine size etc, it still gives some indication as to how many A8's are still on the road in the UK (or at least as of 2007).
