Dezzy, that Land Rover sounds intresting and the free tax is a nice bonus. Is it on classic car insurance?
I've been looking at £300 Rovers to keep me mobile whilst this goes of to Ben. Can't do without a car, once it's back I'll see if I can polish it up and make a few bob on it. The Rover that is, not the 8. Although the 8 will be gong to, but only when I'm happy it's a good example that's running sweet for the next owner.
The Honda was so boring and it probably said gay things like 'hey happy magic boy' on startup and I don't think of ever liked a jap car, other then the new (R35?) Skyline GTR.

Ha, Ha thats what it is, i thought it was bird sh1te. Be wary of cars parked in dark places that look like a plasterer's radio.

The Landy is on classic a policy and limited to 5k a year it's just cost me a staggering 120 notes for 12 months. The offer still stands. Or a gray fergy tractor TAX and MOT exempt, red diesel, park it where you want can't clamp it, no right of way issues the list is endless.

Hey Amar,

Really sorry to hear about your new 8 having issues too.

I, like you, am not on my first 8 either with my first one having the camchain snap.

All i can say that i seriously looked into buying something that would cost me little to run....i couldn't do it. The D2 is such a special place to be in and i love the fact that it's rare, understated, and that it has a sense of class no honda, toyota and many others can match.

Personally, i keep about 2-3k in a slush fund purely for the 8. Anyone not saving up for a rainy day with these vehicles (in my view) shouldn't own one.

I have a feeling that if your S8 was back on the rd with a working engine, you'd be happy as larry again. I saw it 2 weeks ago at ben's and it's a unique example...that (for me) gives it a unique appeal.

I hope it all works out for you mate

Oli

Hi Oli, thanks for your post. It really helps. I came into '8 ownership with my eyes wide open and know a £1-2k repair cost can always be looming, to be honest I don't have a 2-3k slush fund at the moment as after buying my new car and still having the old one it's streched my finances a
fair bit, which is exactly the reason it's going. I don't want to own a car like this and have an empty bank account at the same time. Head is kicking in over heart. Also the D2 will no longer be my daily, the worst thing for me is not being able to cope without a car Mon-Fri more then the fincial worry, because of my age I can't rent and no busses go to work!

Dezzy, thanks so much for your kind offer and the Land Rover sounds very cool but I couldn't possibly trouble you like that encase I damaged it etc... Thank You very much though.

With Ben being away, I've been looking at alternative garages. After speaking with 3/4 I eventually settled for a BMW specialist as they had M5s, E30 M3s and 750 V12s parked outside instead of tatty N reg Astras. Its getting a full health check and pre mot inspection/diagnostics so it will have a clean bill of health for the new owner.
Will keep you updated.

The garages couldn't find anything so I bugged Ben (sorry mate) till he allowed me to come over to his and within 10 mins diagnosed it as a 100% air leak. A split breather house at the back. Getting it fitted this Sat.
Thanks buddy

Thread split and relocated to 'other marques' so the wannabe c***s (Clarkson not me; well me too I suppose) can lust over their beemer fantasy's elsewhere.
