X6s look stunning IMO but everyone apart from me and my missues seem to hate them. Excellent range of engines on them, always thought the Q7 looked crap though.

Can't see the point of the X6 myself - if you need an offroader with space, then the X5 does it. If you don't, then a 5-series drives better and costs much less to run
As for BMWs I've lusted over - I really wanted an Alpina B10 3.3 but pricing on these is all over the shop as they're so rare - some price them silly high because rare must mean valuable, others are more sensible (why would somebody pay twice the price for a B10 over the 530 base car when you could have an M5 for similar money?!), that was after looking at E39 530 Sports for quite a while. I wasn't really looking for a V8 when we bought our S8 - was trying to be 'sensible' and buy another 6 cylinder, but I got a little carried away The Q7 is fuggly, IMHO. Makes the Porsche/VW options look positively pretty, and that's stretching the point on the Porsche particularly! First one I saw in black with blacked out windows and chrome - first thought 'oh look, a 4x4 hearse!' |

I agree about the X6.....just can't see the point of it, really, and despite the excellent engines, I can't get on with the styling.....
I looked long and hard before replacing my Range Rover P38....I really wanted to go Audi, having loved my S8 for years, but the Q7 just seemed so ugly, as did the Porsche. The Merc was really boring and the Touareg was ok, but didn't have the same wow factor for me as the X5..... The seats on the X5 were a big issue - the most comfortable by far of all the 4x4s I looked at - and the drive in the X was like driving a big sports car, unlike the lumpy, ponderous feel of the others, which seemed to waft and wander a bit around corners. I made the initial mistake of buying a 3.0i X5- a lovely car, nice spec, but I missed the V8 too much and after a year, found the spec of 4.8is that ticked as many boxes as possible, and it was low mileage, approved used car from BMW with a £70K price ticket when new. Its a fabulous, high performance beast which reminds me in many ways of the S8, and I absolutely love driving it. The Price of a performance car, though, is in its complexity and the way things can go wrong....like the oil cooler suddenly popping its clogs. But BMW were faultless with recovery and repair. Just worry about not having a warranty on it someday - it certainly seems more prone to expensive remedies than my S8 has been over the years!!!! |

Im looking forward to seeing BMWs next Dakar entry. Got to be the X6 right?
That car will look awsome stripped out with a spare wheel attached to the rear slope.
