Thank you very much Oli. It feels good to get it running properly again. Just an unfortunate coincidence with the private plate. Still a few more bits to do service wise.

I have actually managed to find time to re-finish the wood trim in gloss black which really has transformed the interior. There have been a couple of threads on carbon wrapping but not gloss black. I shall start a new thread in the interior section once I have sorted the photos.

How are things with your 8?

Pleased to hear all is well!

I have the issue of wrong parts from the registration number all the time, even though I've had the registration on the current S8 for 2 years and the previous car with that registration plate was also a 2002 S8! Before that (4 years or more?) it was on my 2.8 A8 and before that on my A6. If they can't keep the database accurate, why don't they use the chassis number?

Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

"why don't they use the chassis number". Probably because they are lazy and the reg is quicker. However, as the comments show, the the reg is not is unique to a specific car whilst, oviously, the chassis number is. Glad to hear that you persisted and got the issue sorted out.

It certainly is nice to have the solution to the problem. The annoying thing is that I only gave them the reg. no. once, I usually supply the chassis number. It has actually been quite an enjoyable learning experience. I've had to do a fair bit on the car so I'm getting to know it pretty well now.
