That's the plan, I just have other priorities at present. (and the weather is also not helping)
At least we know accessing the socket to connect it is easy via that route.

Mine should arrive any day now and, as I don't have a heated screen, I'm going to try the knee panel location, probably starting in that little recess at the back of the instrument cluster. I am, after all, higher up than you lot here in Scotland!

Hi Jim, just selotape it to that recess with knee panel off and try it with the quick procedure described above and then for 3 days. If can be fixed permanently in that recess with 2 screws (part number provided above). This will require releasing two front bolts behind two caps that hold cluster in place and moving cluster just an inch forward. No wires needs to be disconnected. This will create just enough space behind dashboard to fix the receiver with 2 screws in OEM recess.

I'm off to The Lake District for a long weekend today and the part has just arrived. David and I are investing in a VagCom so should be able to get it sorted soon....ish.

But I also have the winter tyres arriving today to put on my newly refurbished 18" Avus wheels, the ski hatch and the auto-dimming mirror to fit, the 2 new door mirror covers that I bought off Sergey, some brake bleed nipple covers to fit (surprised they didn't come with the reconditioned calipers), the 20" wheels to go in for a refurb once I swap them for the 18" ones and the outstanding work that I want to do to fully 'sort' the headlights.

Then there's the garage that I'm doing up, not to mention a list of jobs on the house as long as your arm.

I've just had the knee panel off and placed my receiver (temporarily, taped not screwed) in the recess at the back of the instruments.

Feeling around there does seem to be a MASSIVE metal beam just in front of that, so I'll have to wait and see what it does to reception. Given the lower location was intermittent I'll give it a good week or two.

It lost the signal overnight, so I guess there's significant logic to the OEM position.
I'll leave it a few days and see if it picks it up, and how quickly.

Either way I'm probably going to try the space in the cowling over the instruments next, but that needs more work to get at so it won't be for a while. Not a high priority at present.

I finished testing under parcel shelf and everything works tip top there.

No signal losses, works fine in garage after a week of continuous parking.
There's plenty of room there and good access.
Snaking wires may require rear seats removal though.
