Default Design and Operating Logic for an A8

Does anyonre have a link or a Document detailing all the nitty gritty of the A8?

F'r'instance it took ages to find out that the Headlamp Washers work one at a time and that the heated mirrors only come on if the adjustment switch is in the centre position.

There is so much more to know..... all the load shed criteria etc., etc.

I did not know that - and I've owned 2 D2s over 4 years

Guess that shows i'm all man and don't need instructions eh?

Also interested to know more now!

I'm asking as my car was in to get washers fixed - took 3 trips!

The last time the Tech came out to demonstrate it was fixed so he started the car, switched on the lights and operated the washers.

Only the N/S headlamp washer operated and I was about to say, "see, told you!" when the O/S one fired up!

I asked the guy about it and the reason is so you don't lose all the light - Audi think of everything!

Then I mentioned the heated mirrors seem to have some weird logic so he told me that bit too!

There must be an Audi Training Guide somewhere......

I'd like to reduce the number of headlamp squirts to say every 5 or more window squirts like my son's Merc does. Loads of stuff like that I NEED to know.

I thought my mirrors were not defrosting as quickly as I would like. Waiting for SWMBO recently and short of reading matter forced to read the handbook where I discovered that the rear power socket is also rendered inoperative by cutting off the rear windows with the drivers control. Probably a million more things I didn't know.

The passenger mirror will only tilt down at the kerb when you reverse, if the knob is clicked over to the passenger mirror.

Very subtle changes between PF and FL then my sunroof knob turns both anti and clockwise for tilt or slide. Both my headlight washers fire at the same time.

I think the head lamp washers do each side in turn, so as to deliver the maximum pressure to each headlamp.
And, You only get the lamp wash when you have the headlights on and use the washers for more than a second or so. Neat
The boot liner over the spare hooks out of the way onto the lip of the boot by way of the pull handle (I guess you already knew that)
But, there's nowhere to hook the washer filler cap out of the way on my D3, so it flips almost shut when your trying to fill the washer bottle up. Crap
Why can't the boot be remotely closed. That's something you could have fun with

I find it impossible to only squirt the windows when the lights are on.

I let the lever go as soon as the washers work but it's already squirting the N/S headlamp.

There must be a frig in VagCom to alter that timing.....

I dont think its as fancy as using vag com is it? On my old A4 I thought they both fired when the pump had built enough pressure up.

Good to hear they are meant to go off one at a time, I can cross 'fixing' them off my to-do list!!

Is there any way of raising them up (without water coming out!) to check they are all clean, free moving, and the nozzles are OK?
