Default Parking Sensors on the blink?

Aaaaargh!

I've only had the car about 3 months and had a new gearbox oil seal, new battery, new thermostat (and cam belts, water pump etc), aircon re-gas and drains ....

...and now the parking sensors are on the blink. The green light flashes and there is a continuous beep for a few seconds. Then nothing. Is there a thread here somewhere on testing and fixing.

And if anyone can print money that I can spend on this car, please PM me!

That basically means one of the sensors is duff. Vagcom can tell you which one... You can reset the fault, and it will maybe work again, breifly, but really it will need a new one... Its not uncommon unfortunately.....

In this weather there is small chance that grit and crud from the road can coat them and cause duff readings, a good clean might afford you a little more time with it...

Sensors are only about £50 i think, and its not too hard to fit them...

Thanks for that - I'll give my local VagCom owner a call and see if we can meet up.

One further (daft) question - do the sensors come colour coded or do they sit behind a coloured panel? Or do they need to be painted?

You'd need to paint it, Audi wanted £75 from me. Your best bet is seeing if A8 Parts have one in your colour. It's a shame you've had so much go wrong. You forgot to mention the cats in your first post, how many miles
Has the car done now? I remember it was only 40 something.

Yes, I forgot about the cats.

It had 45K on the clock when I bought it. It's now got about 51K. Still a lovely car, though. And I suppose a lot of the big stuff will be done soon. I'll give A8 Parts a call - I want a set of 'winter wheels' too (and a buyer for my 2.8 - that would help the cash flow!).

Hi IceBlue,

If A8Parts don't have one, it may also be worth using ebay germany - i replaced 6 of these bad boys on my previous a8 and have been fortunate to only need 2 so far on my silver one. They were about £30 shipped and brand new.

The parking sensor seems to be coming and going, so I might try a clean. Is it just the small round face on the bumper or is there something else to clean?

And I don't suppose there's a thread on replacing them is there?

Just don't get too close to them with a pressure washer (in fact, try and avoid them) and just make sure they've had a good wash and that's about all you can do really.

In my experience, they usually tend to be intermittently erroring before they completely pack up.
