Facelift LED conversion - German Original vs copies
So, having studied the various places facelift lights can be sourced, I took a punt at buying some of the 'cheap' ones from Germany.(About £600)
Interestingly, last time I did this, I got 100% pukka Audi parts, in Audi boxes and all was well. This time however, things are different. The lights supplied are much cheaper copies, noticable mainly due to the lack of any actual Audi part numbers on the boxes, or the lights themselves and a distinct roughness to the plastics, unlike you'd expect from Audi. I doubt I'm going to fit these, im still within my 14 days and will probably return them to be honest. If the Audi units can ingress water at the best of times, the longivity of these is quite questionable. I've not even plugged them in yet to see how well they work..... I think some slightly more expensive, but pukka ones from a8parts is going to be a better bet. And I wasnt even that bothered about the lights until you lot started talking about it lol.....

That will be my fault I guess. On a plus side, try Audi I told them I could get them online for £650 delivered. So he went away spoke to god knows who and came back with £648 inc vat I dare say they may even come down if you fibbed a bit more. Can only say no. On another note, The plastics on the Audi lights did not impress me, first thing I did before fitting them was run a bead of clear silicone round between the front lens and rear plastic hopefully that should keep the water out.

To add to the mystery here, it seems pukka Facelift rear LED D3 lights also have the slight manufacturing dimple that I see on my new lights, and also on all the other other D3's we looked at at ADI.
I'm seriously wondering if mine could be genuine, but the plastic work was of a poor standard, but sounds like it may have been of the same standard as Haggis' genuine ones from Audi direct  Germany Ebayer isn't playing ball at all on the refund at the moment, and if theres not much better to be had, I might well just stick with these. Need to investigate this '7th wire' though and make sure I get it hooked up correctly so the indicators work right...

Hi Ian, here's my light that I bought from Audi, ignore the seam near the lens as thats silicone that i put round it in a bid to keep water out.
Im still going to wait till someone can prove that section of light on the boot lid actually works on a genuine facelift euro car before i tear mine apart again. If it is meant to work then I will investigate further why mine is not working. I have loads of pics of how to run and connect the wires into the loom, so I will make a tut if we can get them working. Del

Does anyone have any pictures or advice for removing the bootlid liner? I've bought a couple of pre-facelift inners to try and get mine through its MOT in a couple of weeks. I'm not at all confident messing with practical things and havent yet come up trumps with Google. I would like to try and do this myself though as the instructions seem to suggest it only involves undoing screws in the grab handles (or from a quick look underneath them) and something to do with the latch. I want to get it done this weekend because if they don't work I'll need to chat to the seller.
I was about to buy facelifts from German Ebay for circa £650 but questions about additional wiring and then the genuineness of what might be supplied put me off...for now. Thanks in advance.
