Default How to jump start car when boot lock won't work?

Hi,

I haven't used my car in about a week and i tried opening it today with the remotes (2 of them) but alas the car battery is flat somehow.

i have tried opening it manually through the bootlock to get to the battery but something appears to be jammed in there and i can only put the key in half way.

I have no ski-hatch as the rear entertainment unit is bolted in and the button by the drivers door doesn't work as it runs off the electrics.

So, is there another option?

I know on Volvos the battery is also in the boot but they have 2 points under the bonnet which allow you to jump start it from there...anyone know if we have that in our D2's by any chance?

Thanks for your help..hoping i won't be needing the AA in the morning

Oli

I don't think the D2 has them charge points, I left something on and the battery went flat and the AA guy was hoping that there was but ended up having to remove the invertor/DVD changer. He was asking why the feck I had one in my car I just acted dumb and clueless.

Oli, may be worth trying this?

Thanks Amar.

A few more questions if you don't mind...

- is it possible to remove the entertainment unit from inside the cabin?
- what was it the AA man did when you did get it out? It's quite a small area so just wondering how that allowed you to open the boot...
- That Maplins link goes to their homepage. Would you mind reposting?

Cheers buddy!

I've never really fancied drawing starting current through the cigar lighter - or is that 12v auxiliary power these days - but a gadget this this may give you enough juice to open the boot. D2 does not need ignition for this socket to be 'live' so might be of use with a completely flat battery.

Thanks mate - i also found a maplin equivalent here

Can you believe i actually have a booster pack that allows this already with a cigarette plug? ... i'll give you 3 guesses where i keep this but you'll probably only need 1 after the following clue...

...it is currently not accessible!

Thanks again!

Are the locks not just frozen up? May also be worth trying to get in the drivers door to see if the internal electric boot release has enough juice in it to work. If not then something plugged in to give some charge should give enough power for the solenoid to function

Tech tip 1 .

Check your boot lock regularly! I wouldn't want to do a jump with one of those lighter units attached (especially seeing as the lighter sockets are rated at 10A), but should be enough to get a little bit of power in there to open the boot.

Hi guys,

So it's all sorted

The AA guy managed to put just enough voltage on the car for the boot button to work.

Here is how he did it...

Step 1: Take off fusebox cover in right side footwell
Step 2: Take booster pack negative terminal and clamp it on the pin shown in the picture above
Step 3: Place the positive booster pack clamp on a screw driver so that you have a 'charged' thin piece of metal
Step 4: Place positively charged screwdriver in little hole on the red fuse seen in the picture above
Step 5: use remote to turn off alarm
Step 6: press boot button by drivers side door

The issue was that i had accidentally switched on the rear seat entertainment playstation unit when I placed a quick detailing bottle on top of it.

Also popped out the boot lock and there was grit in there which i can only think was from all the recent snow but that's now working again too.

Thank you for all the help and hope this is of use for others.

Oli

If you take the front passenger footwell carpets out and remove the wooden footplate (4 crosshead screws, use the screwdriver from the audi toolkit) you will reveal the main leccy distribution area.

At the bottom right you will see a very thick wire which connects directly to the battery.

I wouldnt recommend jump starting from here, but you'll have no bother getting a decent amount of juice in to run everything bar the starter. you might even get away with a trickle charger on a low setting....
