Default Tick, tick, tick, boom, boom etc.

As you may surmise from the title I have a ticking noise emanating from my drivers side footwell that is louder with the window down. It doesn't happen till above eighty mph (which is fine as I never do above seventy, of course) which puzzles me because if it was a driveshaft on the way out surely it would be noisy nearly from standstill. The wheelwell trim is missing a few clips so it could be that flapping. Thoughts anyone on what a dying driveshaft is supposed to sound like and when? Noise does not change according to direction of steering but I could have sworn it was different the last time we had bad crosswinds, hence the thoughts about flappy trim.

Bill

PS. Its been doing it for a while but I presumed it would fail rapidly so investigated the cost of replacement and turned up the stereo untill it went pop. It stil hasn't so I'm now curious.

How old are your pads & discs? Could be a pad loose in the carrier.

Not something in the tyre is it? Like a tack or screw?

Thanks for the thoughts.

Pads and disks are due replacement so could be.

Tacks and screws are ruled out by the fact it's only over eighty and I check them every other day for cuts and foreign bodies. A hangover from motorcycle maintenance.

It does puzzle me. It's done 6000 miles without getting worse so I'm just curious now. Brakes have got squealy recently and I know the disk on that side is nearly U/S so that could well be it. Having to throw several hundred quid onto the wife's card means that even the pennies for new disks and pads are a little short .

Will post an update to the relavent section if new disks sorts it.

Cheers

Bill
