On the RS6 I had a similar sounding issue where I replaced the sensor with no success. Eventually turned out to be a broken wire in the PDC loom. Odd thing was there was no localised damage, it was just broken somewhere inside the bit of wire in the bumper.
I guess in short, my advice would be to get a test meter from the pins in the boot where the PDC controller is to the connector at the front where the sensor goes. If a common wire has failed, its probably quite easy to piggy back off off the sensor next door. In the RS6 case, the wire was only brokem about 6 inches away from the sensor so I was able to repair the wire......
Sorry, I genuinely beleived it was just a sensor, as it is 99.9% of the time....

Hey Ian - thanks for the advice (i was thinking similar) and no big deal!
As the front end was resprayed at some point, i have a feeling that it has damaged a wire somewhere and that it is near the front by the bumper.
I just called Carl @ A8Parts and am on the waiting list for a PDC wiring loom that goes from the radiator area into the bumper just in case but will do some more digging.
Thanks again,
Oli
