Default long time since but a quick update

Well, some may remember my A8 threw a wobbly back in December, TBH it was a starw that broke the camels back. As such I got my old Volvo out and started using that. 2 weeks later it split an oil cooler feed pipe dumping its oil all over teh road....

Well, it was Xmas, I had no car and a very pee'd off missus

So as I needed transport I had to go and buy something which was a bit of a come down in some ways but reliable at least

I left teh A8 with my usual garage with a "no hurry" type of response. Anyway, 3 weeks later one of the mech was in a major accident smashing his leg to pieces. As this left them seriously short staffed The asdked if they could leave mine a while longer so I agreed as I had no real need of it. After 4 weeks it was no nearer teh top of their Q so I asked when it was going to happen, it was taken back down.

3 weeks later I finally get an update, they had no real clue and different electrical specialists were saying it was anything from immobilisor to ECU to Loom issues to all sorts of things. I had given them my VAG Com report that suggested a TPS issue but they assured me they had tested it and it was fine. Teh prognosis was sell it as a non runner as it could cost a fortune to fix all teh possible issues........

Well, I'm a geek and I make my living from Computers so I decided I trusted VAG COM more than a bunch of so called auto electricians.

I also found a recommended VAG indie on a VW forum that happens to be 5 miles away from home. I arranged for my 8 to be transported to them.

Long story short they read teh VAG COM , ran their own, agreed with my thoughts, tested teh TPS, it failed 3 out of 4 tests.......

130 quid part, 2 hours labour I have a perfectly running car again

so recommendation to

BIt Pee'd off with my local garage TBH, they have always been fine up to now, I think its simply that they don't know where to start with the 8.... I'd have preferred if they had just said that back in december though.

also its due in for its MOT tomorrow so wish me luck!

Hi Ian,

Really pleased for you that it turned out to be a simple solution and you're back on the road.

Good luck with the MOT tomorrow

Oli
