Just did another oil change last week. I made one mistake, most of you probably already know this but in case someone doesnt hope you can learn from my mistake.
I over-torqued the oil filter drain plug during the previous oil change (supposed to be 10Nm) and hence ripped up the rubber seal when I undid the plug for this oil change. The mistake was to use a 1/2" square drive torque wrench which has a range 14-160Nm. Even though its range goes from 0 Nm.
I read recently that its not a good idea to use a torque wrench that goes to high torques on low torque bolts (like 10Nm) because they could be inaccurate at low torques.
Luckily I still had an old oil filter plug so I used the seal off that which was still in good condition.
I need a lower range wrench for next time, I read that Halfords 3/8" is good as its been found to be accurate by some magazine, I think I'll get that one.
