Its really tricky to get the plug up and out of the door skin - the only way to do it without risking damaging the plug is to loosen the upper door away from the door skin. This will give you some extra wiggle room to be able to pull it carefully up and out. Alternatively you can unplug all the wires from inside the mirror mechanism and remove the mechanism leaving the wires protruding from the door whilst you work on the mirror.

A word of warning - if you choose option 1 and separate the upper door form the skin it will take you a lot of time and patience to get it all re-aligned again and shutting perfectly. Its a fiddly job!

Neil - cheers for that and sounds like an easier way to go about it.

David - thanks for the detail on on how to go about it. I can't tell you how much effort i put into just getting to the point of taking the door and mirror off before realising what you just said about getting the cable out. I will give disconnecting the wires from inside the mirror mechanism a go...option 1 sounds like a surefire way to make me pull my hair out!
