Bonnet release cable snapped possibly.
Guys has anyone a guide to popping the bonnet when you cant use the release handle?
Mine has iether snapped or come loose from the front block where it pops the actual catch. I have the balled end hanging loose down by the handle. Help please!! |

Hopefully, someone will be on soon with another solution, but I read on another forum that it's possible to use a hacksaw under the bonnet to cut off the latches and then replace them later.
Is yours broken from the under-bonnet handle, or the release handle inside the car? |

Well it looks like the end that goes into the handle in the footwell still has it ball stop. So unless the handle itself has broken and the cable come out causing it to go loose and come off under the bonnet i dont know.
Either way i need to get the bonnet open to investigate. |

Pulling freely from the handle so suspect it has snapped.

Rick, someone had this problem recently. The advise was to remove the front drivers side wheel arch liner to gain access.

I had this happen over the weekend, the drivers side latch would not open.
I read all the forms on here and elsewhere and started with removing the inner wing and accessing the junction box to see if pulling directly on the cable that operated the drivers side latch would do it but alas no. I did revert to using a saw under the bonnet to cut the clamp, took about 2 mins to with minimal damage to the bonnet. This thread covers off how to do it with pics http://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-s...830934/page11/ The root cause was the gland/ball at the latch end of the cable had come adrift so the cable just pulled through, likely a combination of corrosion and not being lubricated. Today I visited Audi Edinburgh prepared for a touch your toes price but the cable in question was less than £8 with the catch bracket less than £5, I have both cables and bracketry on order. as I think it prudent to change both. I will put the Audi part numbers up here shortly. For £15 quid its probably worth changing your cables and lubricating the latch mechanisms if you feel bored one afternoon

The same happened on mine. Apparently there are two release cords visible for the release catch (one for each side). Since I did not do the fix myself, I am not sure what needs to be removed out of the way to access these cords. It was not a quick or easy job but nothing was damaged.
I understand that the fitting of these release cords was dependent on the manufacture year..

Think I shall add this to my todo list and get it done before it becomes an issue, might as well replace all three cables and lube them prior to fitting.

Sadly yours did not have the cords ... I had to use a tool I had made to pop it open but it's possibly worth retro fitting some cords in case of emergency |
