It cracks me up when people think that electric cars are the way to go, when lithium that stores electricity in battery packs are made of materials that are in relatively short supply and are classified as rare earth minerals.

If you are on both sides of the fence, take a look at a Fisker Karma

Back on topic though, if you want the D4 S8, do it, life is too short

Hmm...and oil will last forever :
Definition of "rare earth" (Google - emphasis added) is "any of a group of chemically similar metallic elements comprising the lanthanide series and (usually) scandium and yttrium. They are not especially rare, but they tend to occur together in nature and are difficult to separate from one another"

The Fisker Karma is a joke - it caught fire nearly as often as a petrol vehicle .

And (back on thread), though the D4 S8 is an ok car, I'd just say one word: depreciation.

Not saying oil will last forever, I know someone who has a Fisker and hasn't had any problems with it, he also has a tesla (the little Elise rip-off one).

I remember seeing Honda's Hydrogen Accord, now that to me seemed like a better solution for the future but its fraught with problems as well. The whole sector has problems.

I was sat in a D4 S8 at Audi today, nice enough car, doesnt really do it for me, but my D3 S8 didn't do it for my friends either, so its down to taste. I'm going to have to scratch my Porsche itch at some point, and I will because life is too short.

You post it where it should be and delete this one then I'll do the same.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Not to be confused with Depreciation.

In several fields, deprecation is the discouragement of use of some feature, design or practice; typically because it has been superseded or is no longer considered safe – but without completely removing it or prohibiting its use

Thanks all, you are no help at all
Oh well things have progressed and i have a couple of options to consider lets see what comes up over the next few days. Just been offered a matt silver one ...floret silver...doesnt do it for me i am old fashioned and like shiny cars.

On the depreciation front most of these "types" of car depreciate like the clappers even Porsches i have had one. i just like big comfy saloons i guess. You pays your money and takes your choice. But they appear to have a bit of a deal on them if you can find a dealer with stock or one heading their way. I never think of my daily motor as an investment i just take the view i pay to drive a certain type of motor and whoever gets it three years down the road will get a cracker as I do look after them.
Also this new tax change comes in from 1st april so the drivers of these motors will get whacked again to help fund the treasury .....won't be used for filling in the potholes, even Teslas will be caught in the new value added car tax. All seems to fly in the face of the previous systems and now penalise people for spending their hard earned cash
Anyway i will keep updating this thread on what i get offered, i am genuinely sad to posibly say goodbye to my v8d though its a truly stunning car and after a year of owning her she hasnt missed a beat or wanted for an ad blue fill up
As George Best once said
'I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered".

True - and in the spirit of continuing to send this thread off at tangents , I'll just leave this George Best clip here - for those who haven't seen the movie yet:
