Thank you
![]() Well, its still throwing up surprises ![]() I discovered a hole in the underseal right in the corner. Poke poke poke, and there's a section about 2x3" where the underseal is loose and just falling off in chunks. After some cleaning with solvent and a wire brush, its basically bare metal and exposed seams. Water will have been getting in here since all the drains were blocked, but its been in the workshop for a year so nice and dry now Obviously I had to go and poke the other side ![]() It came off in one huge chunk on this side - just spooged in there and not bonded at all, with dirt behind it. I cleaned both sides as thoroughly as possible with solvents (nothing water-based), then applied new seam sealer. I will wait for this to completely dry before cleaning this area any more. Started on the wheel arches. Cleaned with APC, then hit it with W7 Tar and Glue remover to dissolve all the tar spots. This stuff is great - spray on and the tar just melts away Second pass and its almost all gone If you're not standing in your wheel wells to get the tar off the wheel arch lips, is it even detailing? ![]() Driver's side nice and clean now The rack has definitely been out at some point. Remember the stupid-expensive rivets I mentioned earlier? This is one, used to replace a snapped body stud which gets in the way of getting the rack out. Its pretty much guaranteed that the butcher of Bristol didn't fit this (he would have used a self tapper) so I think this was done before it was 7 years old while it was still being maintained by Audi. The rack isn't a re-con and I have no receipt for the work so its unclear what was done, but it may explain why the hoses appear in much better condition than normal. Note - I bent it getting the rack out but it straightened out ok ![]() Passenger side done. Interestingly, just like Big Red, the chassis leg is lacquered on the left and not on the right! Does anyone know what this is and where it goes? |

I assume that you know, MJ, and this is a teaser. Because if you really don’t know, what chance have we mortals?

I'd guess it's a seal or anti-vibration device of some sort, but the real mystery is why the four conical plug shapes?

MJ, having cheated to find out what it is, you need to give us mortals easier ones to give us any chance of knowing.
A suggestion for you for when you finish the car. Post a photo of the one single item you didn't have to fix!

That's easy, a certain software application on my laptop, a lot of time on my hands and an assumption that the part was found in the vicinity of the work area. For confirmation, MG:8/SG:07/ILL-NO:807-000/31.
