Sorry, I should have clarified about the wire colours. The colours I mentioned are what is described in the official wiring diagram. See page 143 of the following PDF (in the D2 Tech Dump thread), and the wiring for N201 and N202:

From the new photo of the end of the connector, I stand by my suspicion that they just basically attached (soldered?) the wires to the existing pins from the top, and not bothered to fit them properly through the back, possibly because they couldn't get the pins out. That being the case, the outer covering won't fit in it's current wiring state.

it's ok, no worries. I just installed the new covers on the current connector as stated by MJ. I've never been good at reading and understanding a wiring diagram.

Mods prior to my ownership: 01E 6 speed, carbon fiber trim, bi-xenon, aftermarket muffler with x-pipe, tinted windows, non-tip steering wheel, Spal electric fan.

My mods: Oxblood red interior, LED interior lights, D3 ignition coils, new window tint, tip steering wheel with new S8 emblem, mk1 TT steering wheel air bag, mk1 TT 6 speed shift knob, new shift boot.
