The standard brakes are crap. Even the 4 pots on the S8 are useless.
Audi should have fitted RS spec brakes as standard. A big car needs big brakes.

Personally, I
the D2..... I cant think of many ways to improve it, but heres some thoughts:It would have been nice to see rain sensitive wipers towards the end of the D2 range, or at least make them standard on the D3, afterall we do get a lot of rain in the UK! Also in UK we do get the cold, so the option over here for Aux heater would have been nice, and not bringing over the diesels was a really weird move. I appreciate the logistics of squeezing in the 3rd pedal on the right hand footwell prevented the manual, but the 2.5Td and 3.3tdi (and 6.0 w12) would have been quite at home here if they could have been bothered... The grills, oh lordy lord, why on earth were the grills designed with about 1mm of tollerance before they fall out? why why why ? They had 3 goes at designing D2 grills, all equally crap. This isnt lada for gods sake.... The boot divider that sits above the battery. That was definitely a Friday afternoon ****up. Who on earth thought those 4 pitiful lugs would cope with the huge amount of stuff people would stuff in such a useful cubby hole wants there head read. Although, hes a German designer and clearly got it wrong, so has probably already been shot. The electric aerial on the preface. Thankfully, they phased it out by 2000, but caused 6 years of misery beforehand Those pathetic prefacelift armrests with all the strength of a plasticine moulding. Again, they fixed it in 1998, but 4 years of broken armrests causing execs all over the world to drive with their arms hanging off. The whole Audi/vw one point closure system where you have to hold the dam key in the door or button down on the fob. Why the hell can't I just press the lock button and have it shut the dam windows and sunroof itself? I'm a busy businessman in a rush, I bought a fast Audi to save time, not waste it !! Yes, I might have dogs or a kid in the car, so at least give the option to code it in if we really want it ? Its got anti trap etc etc Why couldnt we have a 3 spoke sporty steering wheel AND multifunction controls for the stereo? I see they managed it on the D3... They obviously figured it out eventually Why couldnt we have (and still on the D3 cant have) a chilled glovebox? Its not exactly hard to take a cold feed from in front of the evaporated and direct a pipe into the glovebox, heck you can even have an on/off vent control. They get it in A4's, and even the Skoda superb has it as standard on some models so why not on my A8 ?? Why didnt they carpet the underside of the parcelshelf in the boot on the D2? They do on the D3 and it looks so much more 'finished' And my final, and probably most relevant design improvment - The gearbox - Why didnt Audi either (a) pay ZF a few more quid for a more robust unit or (b) ensure that the fluid change remained as part of the service every 20K from birth.... Its not rocket science, but they still dont seem to have fully grasped it, even today......

I think a better design for the foglight grilles to stop them either falling out or getting stolen!!
why the frick did they make the fuel filler cap in steel when the rest was aluminium so that its the one noticeable thing that can rust??
