Fascinating as ever and always on my 'watch list'.

I know you've done the timelapse video of the job on the V6 and have posted several replies regarding certain aspects of the job. There are also a couple of PDFs with the instructions, but if you have the time, a full write-up of the procedure would be very much appreciated by myself and possibly others as you know all the little tricks.

If possible, could you also give a full list of parts and tools required (again, they're scattered around in other threads), things that might be required but not classed as tools (e.g. 'Assembly lube' below), as well as clarifying bank/side. As far as I know, the left side of the car is the passenger side (nearside) on a RHD car but the left side of the engine (I think bank 1) is the left side as you look at the engine from the front, and the reason for the clarification is if I remember from reading the PDFs previously is that the number of links differ between left and right bank.

Noted Bank 1 is right hand side of the car, cylinders 1-4. Tools are scattered around the workshop, as usual

I'll make another thread on this job once the car is back together

Write-up with pictures, narrated slide show, or real-time video?

A place for everything and everything in it's place... so you can lay your hands on them.

Personally, I'm more of a 'write-up with pictures' sort of person, as you get the closer shots and exact details. It also means being able to print them off and have them with you when you're doing the work.

I agree. Whilst I don't own a D2, pictures and text are usually easier to follow and print out.

Noted. I will make it so.

A little while back someone mentioned a product called 'Elbow Grease' in a D3 thread. I can't find the thread now to give proper credit to whoever it was, but this stuff is amazing! I thought it was worth a shot for a pound a bottle, and I am now giving serious consideration to filling my parts washer with the stuff!

By way of visual demonstration, here it is getting to work on the inlet manifold:

Before:

After:

For something solvent-free to cut through thick grease and crud like this stuff does is remarkable. It has some pretty powerful detergents in it as well as whatever is dissolving the oils - it seems to brighten up aluminium parts much more than solvent degreasers do. I will definitely be trying it in the engine bay when I get to that

The front has a bit of corrosion, but still cleaned up well.

Breather pipes back on, and I'm just waiting on inlet manifold gaskets so I can put the manifold back on. Hopefully tomorrow for those.

It was 89forever in the following post:

Initially I thought he was taking the p*ss with the name, but after seeing it advertised, I wondered why no one had used the name before.

MJ's stuff on these threads is like gold dust - even to someone like me who's never going to pick up a tool in anger . Imagine how much Audi would try to charge for this sort of product knowledge and level of detail ....
