I thought, after all its been through, the car deserved four of the stupid-expensive rivets



The stump of the old stud



Ground it off and drilled a 5mm hole for the rivet



At this point it went catastophically wrong, and my air rivet gun totally destroyed a £12 rivet It crushed the threaded part and didn't cinch the back of it in to the panel, so it just fell out again. I guess there is a special tool for these things which I don't have, or they just don't work in the thick aluminium of the D2 chassis leg. I gave up with them and just put rivnuts in like I should have done in the first place





I also replaced the starter cable stud with a rivnut which is a mod I've been doing for a while



Broken earth bolt



Drilled it out



and ran a tap through it to clean up the threads. Logs of galvanic corrosion on here so I'll clean up this surface as well.



Also replaced a couple of other broken rivnuts with new ones, and cleaned up the others with a tap
